On-Line Web-GIS Application How To
The on-line application provides a geographic interface for finding a World Reference System (WRS) path/row. The on-line GIS allows for panning and zooming, with geographic information usefull in identifying a user's area of interest. Once a user zooms to a close enough level (larger scale) two data layers become visible: the WRS I and WRS II tile systems for the orthorectified data sets archived at the Landsat.org. The graphics below show how to use the application.
This is the initial web-GIS page for the search application.

What the tools on the toolbar do.

As you zoom in, more map details are shown.

  • Political boundaries and labels
  • Rivers and water body labels

Zoom close enough two additional geographic layers appear: the WRS I and WRS II tiles systems. The tiles show the area of of coverage including the overlap of adjacent tiles.

  • WRS I: red outlines and red labels
  • WRS II: black outlines and black labels
You can toggle either of the tile system layers on or off by selecting/deselecting and clicking the "Refresh Map" button.
Use the "identify" tool, click on a location on the map, and a new window is presented with the list of path/rows for that particular point. Note: you do not need to zoom in in order to use the "indentify" tool.
